June 22 Wakefield Farmers Market

Wow! We had a spectacular opening day and are looking forward to another great market day on June 22 as we welcome music from Betty’s Bounce, the Pop-Up Library, a cooking demo with the Remedy Exchange, and we have another chance to support the Independence Day Committee via purchasing one of their fabulous T-shirts. Plus freshly picked produce and more, of course. The Wakefield Farmers Market takes place at Hall Park (next to Veterans Field, GPS 468 North Ave Wakefield MA) each Saturday through October 12, 2019.

Our June 22 market day will feature music by Betty’s Bounce, Featuring local guitarists Audie and Zach Bridges and joined by Curtis Doo on the double bass, the band will play their special take on Django, Swing, and Gypsy jazz. The Wakefield Farmers Market Music Program is sponsored by The Savings Bank.

Yarrow, our magical and trusty balloon twisting artist. We will of course also have hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, and jump ropes on hand for kids of all ages, and the Kid’s Activity tent will be set up and stocked with plenty of paper, crayons, as well.

Justina Langone, owner of The Remedy Exchange, located at 41 Tuttle St, Wakefield will be guest chef in our Market Kitchen Tent. Justina will be preparing a delicious and healthy dish using produce chosen that morning from our farmers. Thanks to The Wakefield Cooperative Bank, our Market Kitchen Tent and Farm/Food Education sponsor.

The Wakefield Independence Day Committee will be our nonprofit guest. Be sure to stop by to learn how to support Wakefield's wonderful annual parade that the committee organizes as part of our town’s July 4th celebration. Meet some of the amazing volunteers will be on hand offering ways to help support the parade, including some great T-shirts and other items for sale, as well as ways to become a one-day or ongoing part of the team that makes this great annual event happen.

The Pop Up Library will be here this week! Stop by to take out a book or two, or even sign up for a library card.

Our nonprofit guest is the Wakefield-Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce. Stop by to learn how the chamber can help you find great local businesses or how your business can benefit by becoming a member.

Now, here’s what you’ve been waiting for – the official list of week’s vendors!

Produce: Farmer Dave, Fay Mountain Farm and Kelly’s Farm will have plenty of in-season produce of all kinds, and I am sure there will be luscious strawberries available, as well as greens, herbs, potted plants and hopefully cut flowers from Kelly’s if there are some ready for picking this early in the season.

Pasture-raised Meats, Poultry, and Eggs: Lilac Hedge Farm will have all you need for locally raised meats, poultry, and eggs. Check out with local honey, and yummy jerky type products.

Seafood: Roberto’s Seafood will be have plenty of fresh seafood on hand. You can even pre-order and have it ready for you at the market. Call Roberto’s Seafood for details.

Specialty Foods: Deano's Pasta delicious fresh pasta, and Habibi Gourmet Food (Mediterranean fare), the very best authentic Egyptian and Lebanese food.

Baked Goods: Goodies Homemade (the BEST Cookies), Swiss Bakers (pretzel rolls!) The Bread Shop (also offering freshly milled flour), and Roasted Granola, which also offers locally made yogurt.

Beverages: Aaronap Cellars (wine) are showcasing the best in Northeast wine making. Pony Shack Cider are here this week. Their ciders have just the right amount of light fizziness, and are not too sweet and have distinctly delicious flavors. Pour Man’s Coffee is here, too, with the BEST ice coffee and other beverages, plus treats to enjoy at the market. They also sell Fair Trade coffee beans from Dean’s Beans to take home.

Pet Treats: Emmett’s Edibles, with healthy treats for your canine and feline friends.

Artisans: Cloth Creations, Kittredge Candles, Sheepshed Mountain View Farm, specializing in their own line of Tencel/Merino, Coopworth, Columbia, Silks, Angora rabbit and goat, creating fantastic spinning yarns. Check out Trow's Treasures herbal products to sooth the body, mind & spirit. Also, Alison Simcox and Doug Heath with their books about Lake Quannapowitt, Breakheart, and recent award winner, The Fellsway.

The market offers "Market Bucks" that can be purchased for use with vendors via credit/debit cards or SNAP/EBT and will again be matching SNAP purchases up to $10 per visit so that everyone can afford to get fresh and healthy foods at our market.
