Lewis Endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund

Dr. Jennifer Childs-Roshak: "The stakes have never been higher in the fight for reproductive rights and health care access."

A release from the office of State Senator Jason Lewis:

BOSTON - State Senator Jason Lewis, Senate Chairman of the Joint Committee on Public Health, has been endorsed for reelection by the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts, one of the leading reproductive rights and sexual health advocates in the Commonwealth.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts and am deeply committed to protecting the health and rights of people in our communities,” said Senator Lewis. “Here in Massachusetts, we must take the lead to ensure that all of our residents can exercise their rights and have access to the care and support they need to stay healthy. I’ll never stop fighting for Planned Parenthood patients, for the protection of reproductive rights, for affordable access to health care, and for establishing that healthcare is a human right.”

Commenting on the endorsement, Dr. Jennifer Childs-Roshak, President and CEO of the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts, said:

“As D.C. politicians wage attacks on access to reproductive health care and comprehensive sex education, we need leaders like State Senator Jason Lewis in the State House to defend Massachusetts and push our state forward. Senator Lewis will fight for policies that strengthen reproductive rights and eliminate barriers to vital health care to ensure everyone has access to the care they need. The people of Massachusetts want leaders who will put people first. The stakes have never been higher in the fight for reproductive rights and health care access, and the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund is proud to endorse and fight alongside Senator Jason Lewis.”

In addition to his longstanding support for women’s reproductive health rights, Senator Lewis also championed the passage of several recent Senate bills that will increase and ensure access to affordable health care:

• The ACCESS law, which ensures that Massachusetts residents continue to have access to affordable birth control, safeguarding them from persistent federal attacks.
• The PATCH Act, which improves patients’ privacy rights by allowing them to request that a summary of payment form for their health insurance be sent directly to them, not to the policyholder of their insurance
• The “NASTY WOMEN” (Negating Archaic Statutes Targeting Young Women) Act, which repeals archaic 19th-century laws that, if enforced, would have substantially curtailed access, especially for young women, to reproductive healthcare

The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts is the 501(c)(4) advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts. PPAF works to protect and increase access to reproductive health care by advocating for state policies, electing local champions, and organizing supporters to transform Massachusetts into a national leader for reproductive health, rights, and freedom.

Senator Jason Lewis will be on the ballot for reelection in the Democratic primary on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
