Local Women Nominated Need Your Help

Seven years ago, lifelong Wakefield residents, Kristine Robinson and Lea Hadley created something special -a local charity event called Crawling4aCause, which helps our community in more ways than one. Not only has this event raised over $25,000 to date, it has also brought the community together for one simple cause - “giving back” to the people who need us in our community.

The event’s primary focus is lending a helping hand during the holiday season. Crawling4aCause fulfills several families’ holiday wishlists; in addition, all donations collected pay for enrichment classes, school lunches, art classes, utility bills, laundry, gasoline, clothes, and food. With everyone’s contribution, our support can last throughout the year.

Although the event was created to help families, it has helped many of our local businesses as well. The “crawl” is held every December and takes place at numerous restaurants in Wakefield. This brings anywhere from 80-100 people into our local establishments and puts money directly back into our community.

Recently Crawling4aCause was voted for the Honey Dew Donuts “Dew Good” award, for those who are “making a positive impact in the community”. Nominees will receive $5,000 to be donated to a charity of their choice - subject to approval - and receive $5,000 for themselves. There were over 100 entries and those were narrowed down to the top ten, which included Crawling4aCause.

Kristine and Lea spend countless hours organizing this event and promoting it. While others are worried about planning their own holidays, these two women are worried about making sure other families have everything they need to ensure their holidays are truly wonderful. For Kristine, this labor of love is driven by her own challenges as the mother of an autistic son, and someone who daily faces the challenges of parenting, working, and making time to be a caring neighbor and friend. For Lea, as a mother, it’s the importance to teach young children to be grateful and how to give back to their community and those less fortunate.
