The Many Ways the Sons & Daughters of Italy Celebrated Their Heritage

October was Italian-American Heritage Month

October brings colorful foliage, bustling high school sports, shorter days, breast cancer awareness, and an abundance of pumpkin-spiced treats. Those are all reasons to love October, but let’s not forget it is also Italian-American Heritage Month!

To celebrate, the Lodge got together for happy, sad, fun and delicious gatherings. Some members began the month by attending mass in the North End at St. Leonard's Church. There was our regular monthly meeting where we inducted four new members! Sadly the same week, we also bid good-bye to two of our beloved members. We wrapped up with a Paint Night at the Main Street Grill and Tap House.

Additionally, in honor of our special month, we held a pasta and sauce drive to benefit the Wakefield Food Pantry. We are always happy to partner with this fabulous organization where many of our members overlap with theirs.

We hoped to have a tiramisu demonstration at the October meeting, but it had to be rescheduled. However, we did enjoy welcoming new members Prisco Tammaro, Lisa Serra, Angela Smith, and Antonetta Amicangelo. Benvenuto and Benvenuta!

We’d love to hear how you celebrated Italian-American Heritage Month! Join us at our next meeting or reach out to President Toni at WakefieldOSIA@gmail.com. Don’t forget to visit our Facebook page to see photos and connect with fellow members from Wakefield and beyond.
