MBTA Bus Service Not Expected at MarketStreet Lynnfield

Earlier this week during a conversation about the proposed specialty cinema at MarketStreet Lynnfield, another topic that came up was the possibility that MBTA bus service could be extended to the development after it opens.

Lynnfield residents Wallace McKenzie and Joe DeMaina maintain that eventually, an MBTA bus will make its way up to the town's largest-ever commercial development - likely by extending an existing line serving Lynn and/or Saugus. If this scenario did happen, they said the town would end up paying a considerable amount each year in to the MBTA, which currently does not provide service in Lynnfield.

Still, National Development and the MBTA both said this week that a bus stop is not part of the plan at MarketStreet Lynnfield. In response to an emailed question from Lynnfield Patch this week, a spokeswoman for Ted Tye, managing partner of National Development, said he had confirmed that "there is no plan for MBTA service to MarketStreet."

An MBTA spokeswoman also told Patch.com this week that "we do not have any plants to modify nearby bus service to serve the new development."

Last March, Tye told Lynnfield selectmen that when complete, . The project is under construction off Walnut Street and Route 128 close to the Lynnfield/Wakefield line and is expected to have Phase 1 open in late August.
