Mila Frohlicstein Hopes to Make"Change" in her Community

The Galvin Middle School student who organized a coin drive to support the food pantry, earns distinction as this week's Wakefield Whiz Kid.

Each week, Wakefield Patch will select a Whiz Kid of the Week.

 This week, we chose Mila Frohlichstein, a student who organized her own coin drive to support her local food pantry.

  • Age: 10
  • School: 4th grade, Dolbeare School in Wakefield, MA.

 Why she's a Whiz Kid:

 After seeing a friend from another school conduct a coin fundraiser, Mila was inspired to do the same at her elementary school, the Dolbeare School.  Mila partnered with Gathering Change, Inc., a non-profit charitable organization that collects spare change from our communities for distribution back into the neighborhood food pantries and social programs.

 Working with her school, Mila placed coin collection jars in all four of the fourth grade classrooms and one in the main office last spring.  Through her hard work and dedication, Mila was able to raise over $143 in spare change.  She sent that money to Gathering Change, Inc., who promptly donated the money to the .

It could be in the classroom, on the athletic field or helped out a good cause. They could be the next Wakefield Patch Whiz Kid.

Each week, Wakefield Patch will highlight one child or group in the Whiz Kids feature. We need your help to find these accomplished individuals. Tell us about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.
