New Assistant Superintendent Appointed

Doug Lyons comes to Wakefield from the Parker Middle School in Reading.

Doug Lyons was appointed the new assistant superintendent of the Wakefield schools earlier this week.

Lyons has been the Principal of Parker Middle School in Reading for the past eleven years.

As the leader of his school, Mr. Lyons developed the structures and culture of professional collaboration that are highly compatible with the vision of the Wakefield Public Schools, Wakefield Superintendent Dr. Kim Smith stated.

Lyons earned a B.S. in Marine Engineering at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, an M.S. in Education Leadership at Simmons College, and is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Education program at Northeastern University. Mr. Lyons has been a conference presenter for School Reform Initiative, leading sessions on Professional Development and Adult Learning; he has also presented topics on Teacher Learning at Boston’s Learning Forward Conference. Mr. Lyons is a lecturer at Salem State University, teaching graduate coursework in Theories of Curriculum Design and Evaluation.

“We thank Mr. Lyons for his years of outstanding service, leadership and contribution as an administrator in the Reading Public Schools and wish him the best of luck in the next stage of his career,” Reading Superintendent John Doherty stated.

Lyons new position is effective on Oct. 23.
