New Class! Walk in Love: Episcopal Belief and Practice

Emmanuel Church offers class for those interested in learning more about the Episcopal Church starting on February 6, 2020.

Wakefield, MA: Emmanuel Episcopal Church announces an inquirers’ class for any interested in learning more about the Episcopal Church and its history, beliefs, and practices. Titled Walk in Love: Episcopal Belief and Practice, the course will utilize a book by the same name by authors Scott Gunn and Melody Wilson Shobe.

Sessions will be held on four successive Thursdays—February 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. It will be led by the Rev. Dr. Matthew P. Cadwell, Emmanuel Church’s rector. Anyone in the wider community interested in learning about the Episcopal Church and the Anglican faith tradition is welcome and invited to participate.

Dr. Cadwell remarked: “The Episcopal Church and the Anglican tradition are sometimes called a “Middle Way” between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism, maintaining traditional liturgical practices and an emphasis on the sacraments, while also open to new insights and perspectives on scripture, human life, diversity, etc. We are often thought of as the church founded by King Henry VIII and embodied in old English cathedrals and royal weddings, as well as U.S. presidents like George Washington, Franklin Roosevelt, and George Bush, but we are much more than that. We are a dynamic faith tradition that values reason and strives to be inclusive of all people, even as we embrace the richest aspects of Christian tradition.”
