Northeast Ready for Hockey Tournament and Shawsheen
Boys and girls' basketball teams both proud of tournament berths.

Superintendent David DiBarri and Athletic Director Don Heres had a busy week keeping track of all the MIAA tournament action. That's because Northeast Tech's boys' hockey team as well as the boys' and girls' basketball teams all made it to their tournaments this week.
"We're extremely proud of all our student athletes," Heres said. "We've been competitive making the MIAA tournament and they've made everyone at Northeast very proud."
The hockey team is the No. 4 seed in the MIAA Division 3 North tournament. Their first game will be Sunday at 5:20 p.m. at the Chelmsford Forum against school rival and No. 5 seed Shawsheen Tech.

“We had two good games against Shawsheen, and it’s going to be a tough game, but I think we have a shot to win the North section," said senior captain Steven Wesley. "I'm really proud how the team has done this season."
Overall, Northeast had a great season, winning their conference and making it to the Vocational State Championship on Feb. 25 as the No. 2 seed. The game started out rough for Northeast, and intensified as the night went on. The team came back from a 1-0 deficit to tie and take the lead before the Southeastern/West Bridgewater/Bristol-Plymouth School, the No. 1 seed, tied the game at the end. Northeast lost in the second round of a shoot out.

The No. 12 seed boys basketball team competed in the Division 3 North tournament against No. 5 seed Whittier Regional on Feb. 28. The game concluded in Whittier’s favor.
“We had our ups and downs throughout the season, with some great high points,” said senior captain Andrew Smith. “I’m glad that we made the tournament and although we didn’t win, we had fun trying.”
The No.10 seed girls basketball team fell to No. 7 seed New Mission on Feb. 29 in the Division 4 North tournament. Although Northeast Metro Tech couldn’t take home the win, the team earned the league title this year. This was also the first time the girls basketball team qualified for the MIAA tournament in 10 years.
“It feels good to know our team is the first to make it to the MIAA tournament in a decade,” senior captain Jocy Toussaint said. “It almost feels like an honor.”
