October 12 Market Day

We have a great day planned for our final market of the season, Saturday, October 12. Featuring the music from Julie Dougherty, Reading Symphony Orchestra, cooking demo, balloon twisting, face painting, henna, and a Kid’s Activity Tent stocked with drawing materials, plus hula hoops, jump ropes, and sidewalk chalk, it’s a great place to shop, have a picnic, play, or just hang out on the shore of Lake Quannapowitt.

Our Live Music tent will feature Julie Dougherty, a seasoned performer with a great repertoire of blues and more, she can sing sweet, as well as, belt with the best. The Wakefield Farmers Market Music Program is sponsored by The Savings Bank.

Our guest chef Wendy Dennis, will be preparing a delicious vegetarian recipe using fresh produce and ingredients chosen that morning from our market. Plus, every recipe can easily be made with a protein or vegan. Last week we were treated to a no stock needed, veggie soup - check out our website for that recipe and all our Market Kitchen recipes, always quick, easy and delicious. This week we have The Magic of Yarrow balloon twisting and face painting, Henna tattoos with Henna by Kayla, kid's activity tent stocked with drawing materials. Plus new hula hoops, jump ropes, and sidewalk chalk. We’ve got what you need to make WFM your Saturday morning family destination.

The Reading Symphony Orchestra is our non-profit guest this week. With a mission to provide a performance outlet for talented musicians of all ages and occupations, the RSO contributes to a long tradition of bringing classical music & renowned soloists to audiences in Reading, MA and the North Shore.

Produce: Farmer Dave’s will have their amazing potted plants, lots of roots veggies and fresh fruit. Stop by Fay Mountain Farm’s booth and grab some tasty varieties of squash. Flats Mentor Farm is stocked with specialty Asian greens, herbs, and if you get there early, zucchini blossoms. Kelly’s Farm will have their gorgeous fresh cut flower bouquets and delicious, fresh sweet corn, beans, and pumpkins.

Pasture-raised Meats, Poultry, and Eggs: Lilac Hedge Farm will have all you need for locally raised meats, and poultry. Order you Thanksgiving Turkey!

Seafood: Roberto’s Seafood will have plenty of fresh seafood on hand. You can even pre-order and have it ready for you at the market. Call Roberto’s Seafood for details (617) 529-5701. We’ve made fish a Saturday night staple thanks to Roberto’s!

Maple: Ackermann Maple Farm offers delightful maple products, including maple syrup, maple sugar, and maple cream from their 3000 trees nestled in the hills of Cabot, Vermont. Try the maple cream you won’t be sorry.

Specialty Foods: Deano's Pasta delicious fresh pasta and sauces, for a quick, easy and delicious meal at home. Fork on the Road brings vegetarian and vegan Market Day Meal Kits, inspired by the local harvest and Suman’s global pantry that include ingredients sourced direct from local producers. Plus her homemade spice blends, unique chutneys and snacks. Order your chutney’s for the holidays. Habibi Gourmet Food (Mediterranean fare), with the best authentic, Egyptian and Lebanese food around. Try their olives! Halvah Heaven with award-winning tahini based candy that is loaded with protein and calcium.

Baked Goods: Drive-by Pies joins us, bringing sweet and savory Itty-bitty pies, mini pies and large pies, sweet and savory all homemade from scratch daily. Goodies Homemade with the yummiest cookies are moist and flavorful scones. Swiss Bakers (try their pretzels, a great market snack), The Bread Shop will have their famous cinnamon rolls and sourdoughs (the everything, is everything!), and The Roasted Granola, with the best granola you’ve ever tasted.

Beverages: Aaronap Cellars (wine) are showcasing the best in Northeast wine making. Pony Shack Cider returns with their small batch, artisanal hard cider. Pour Man’s Coffee with the best cold brewed coffee and other beverages, plus treats to enjoy at the market. They also sell Fair Trade coffee beans from Dean’s Beans to take home.

Pet Treats: Emmett’s Edibles, with healthy treats for your canine and feline friends.

Artisans: Bri’s Dyes is here with their unique tees and hand dyed and tie dyed accessories for babies, kids and adults. Jennifer’s Handmade Soap with artisan soaps and bath products. Sasquatch Woodworks, featuring handcrafted scrap wood into unique live edge home goods with metal inlays & Lichtenberg electrical patterns.
