PHOTOS: Wakefield Warriors Sail Past Spy Ponders Football

Wakefield and Arlington high schools met on a chilly Thursday evening in Arlington to battle on the gridiron. Wakefield emerged victorious, 28-7.

Even playing an away game, Wakefield showed their confidence from the very beginning.

Starting a game with an onside kick is a bit risky and unorthodox, yet Wakefield decided to go that route Thursday. The risky opening move ended up benefitting neither team, the game remaining scoreless until 2:59 left in the first quarter when Wakefield running back Josh Puccio made a run in excess of 50 yards for a touchdown.

He then scored again with 6:46 remaining in the half, and after Arlington quarterback Seth Coiley was tripped up in the backfield, forcing them to punt on a 4th and 20, a quick drive resulted in a Wakefield touchdown pass caught by Dan Cardillo with 1:19 left in the half.

A touchdown grab by Wakefield wide receiver Matt McKenna in the third quarter put them up 28-0, and it looked like it was going to be a shutout until 53.1 seconds left in the game, when Arlington's Tom Jantz drove the ball in to put Arlington on the scoreboard.

Using the only option they had left, Arlington attempted an onside kick, recovering the ball and giving themselves a chance to score one last time.

What could have been a chance to mount a small comeback quickly ended when a pass from Arlington's Seth Coiley was intercepted by defensive back Devin O'Donnell with 11 seconds left on the clock. Wakefield kneeled the ball, and the game was done, Wakefield's record improving to 4-1.
