Wakefield Police Search: Authorities Seeking Evidence in Murder Investigation

BREAKING: Police are searching a wooded area off Briarwood Lane in Wakefield.

WAKEFIELD, MA — Law enforcement officials are searching in a wooded area off Briarwood Lane in Wakefield in connection with a year-old murder investigation, according to multiple reports.

Wakefield Police told WBZ-TV that the search is connected to the April 2015 death of Jeffrey Raphael, 30, of Lynn. Raphael's body was found with gunshot wounds in a black Volvo SUV on Sunset Drive.

Multiple reports indicate that authorities are searching for evidence in the case. Photos from the scene indicate that a backhoe and other instruments are being used.

WHDH, 7-News reports that the area being searched belongs to National Grid. Back in 2015, District Attorney Marian Ryan stated that the incident did not appear to be a random act of violence.
