Raffles and Food at Wakefield Sons and Daughters of Italy Meeting

Raffles for the members and food collection for the Pantry

The Sons and Daughters of Italy met recently at Laurie’s 909 in Wakefield to make plans and decisions for upcoming events. Coffee and desserts were enjoyed. Lodge President Adriana Guida shared the names of the recipients of the Lodge’s two scholarships for this year. Members generously donated many bags of the most needed items to the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.

A new, fun way to raise money for the club was tried out. Eight different themed “Edible Delights” baskets were offered up for raffle. There were a few with a coffee theme, one of breakfast items, two with a baking/baked goods theme, and three filled with fun snacks. Some lucky winners won more than one basket and needed help loading them into their cars!

Members of the community are more than welcome to attend a meeting or two and see what we are about. You don’t have to be from Wakefield. Our members come from all of the surrounding towns! Our next meeting will be on May 14 at 6:30. This meeting will feature new Officer Installment (and refreshments) and will be held at the Elks building at 63 Bay State Road. Come on your own or bring friends!

Another date to save is Tuesday, June 11 for our annual charity auction, featuring both blind and open auction items. The auction funds the Lodge’s scholarships for graduating high school seniors as well as other charitable donations to the Wakefield community and beyond. This event will feature dinner by local favorite Harrow’s Chicken Pies. It will begin at 6:00 pm with wine and crackers and will be held at the Americal Civic Center on Main Street. The July meeting will be on Tuesday, July 9 at Laurie’s 909. The Wakefield Festival Italia will be on Saturday August 24, where we will have a booth.

If you like to eat, play, do charitable work and/or meet people, we would love to meet you. For information about joining, contact the President Adriana at wakefieldosia@gmail.com, visit our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/wakefieldOSIA/ and/or join us on May 14!
