Sgt. Thistle Retires After 32 Years
Wakefield Police Department thanks Thistle for his years of service to the department and the town.

The Wakefield Police Department is congratulating Sergeant George Thistle on his retirement after 32 years with the department.
Thistle started as a patrolman in 1983 and was promoted to sergeant in 1988. He spent 18 years with the regional SWAT team, during which time he competed in multiple event competitions across the country.
He also served as a lead firearms instructor and armorer for the Department for many years.

Thistle was comprehensive with every call for service, always taking the time to fully listen to the needs of the individual. He was well versed in officer safety and tactical situations, which enhanced the protection of our staff as well as the citizens involved, according to police.
Thistle’s official date of retirement was July 29.
