The Sons And Daughters Of Italy Have Much To Be Thankful For

November was about new members, the community and each other.

The Wakefield Lodge of the Sons and Daughters of Italy had a fulfilling November. If you’ve been following our news, you know we love to cook/eat, meet new people and support worthy causes. In November, we did all three!

In October, we collected pasta and sauce for the Wakefield Food Pantry. In addition, we voted to make a cash donation to the Pantry so they could help families with Thanksgiving expenses. We also made a financial donation to the NorthStar RealtyToy Drive, and we were thrilled to see the response they received from the community.

With regard to meeting new people, the Lodge welcomed four new members at the November meeting. Some of them were actually not so new, because they opted to attend a few meetings and events before officially joining. We are glad to be growing because new members bring different energy and ideas to the Lodge.

Also in November, we participated in our first (annual?) “Lodge-giving” event. Some may call it a pot-luck dinner, but since it occurred a few days after Thanksgiving, we made up our own name. There are some fabulous cooks in the group and our meal was delightful. It included several different fresh salads/antipastos, Italian bread, various meatballs, lasagna, manicotti, eggplant, penne with beans, and ravioli – YUM! For anyone who wasn’t completely stuffed after that, there were Italian cookies, brownies and chocolates.

Our next meeting will be our annual Christmas dinner. Then we don’t formally meet again until March. However, the Activities Committee has some fun events planned for anyone interested. If any of this sounds interesting and you want information about us, contact President Paula at wakefieldosia@gmail.com.
