Southern Rail, one of the area's favorite bluegrass band returns to Wakefield on Jan. 4 at 8 pm

Bluegrass is back at the Linden Tree with fan favorites:
Southern Rail on Saturday, January 4th at 8 pm. Celebrating over forty years of performing, Southern Rail's performances are high-energy exuberant fun, with riveting harmonies, irrepressible humor and sparkling banjo, mandolin, and guitar solo work. Southern Rail celebrates their years together with the release of their 12th recording, "Voices in the Wind".

Their songwriting has graced Bluegrass Unlimited’s Top Thirty Singles Chart for a combined total of 32 months, climbing to #11. Their special Bluegrass Gospel compilation entitled “Glory Train” was nominated for the Best Gospel Recording of the year by the prestigious International Bluegrasss Association. The group’s founding members have been inducted into the Rhode Island Bluegrass Alliance Hall of Fame. The other band members Richard Stillman and John Tibert also come to the group with strong bluegrass resumes.
Horovitch hails from Montreal, Quebec, and grew up listening to folk and classical music, that was until she attended her first bluegrass concert, which featured Joe Val & the New England Bluegrass Boys. Her first instrument was guitar, but that was soon replaced by the acoustic bass.

Muller hails from Richmond, Virginia, born into a musical family. He fell in love with bluegrass banjo as a young child when his family watched locally-produced TV shows featuring bands from the Richmond area. His first instrument in grade school was the trumpet, but by the age of 14 he turned to the guitar, and after finishing college at Virginia Tech he started playing banjo. He is the band’s principal lead singer and song-writer.
Bluegrass with a touch of gospel makes for a toe-tapping evening.

Tickets are $20 with those under 18 $10. WUMB members also received a $2 discount. Pay with cash or check at the door.
