Summer May Have Ended, But Bocce Did Not

The Wakefield Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge Competed Locally

The Wakefield Sons and Daughters of Italy have been casually playing bocce in the summer for years. But this year, they took their talents on the road to two local tournaments – with great success and fun!

Earlier in the month, the neighboring Wilmington Lodge invited the Wakefield Lodge to their town for a friendly game of bocce. We are proud to announce that our team of Gene, Henrietta, Anna and Dorrie were the winners!

Up next was another friendly but serious Grand Lodge Bocce Tournament hosted by the Methuen Lodge. It was serious only because the caliber of the competition was fierce. Again, Wakefield sent two teams. This time they didn’t win the tournament but had a great experience and a really good time playing.

The bocce season has come to an end, but the meetings and socializing has not. The October meeting will be held on Tuesday the 11th at 6:30 p.m. at the West Side Social Club in Wakefield. Since October is Italian Heritage Month, members will be sharing stories of what that means to them. Later in the month, many members will be preparing a spaghetti dinner for our young friends at the Boys’ and Girls’ Club.

As always, if you are curious about the Lodge, you are invited to attend a meeting and “try before you buy.” We welcome hearing from you; please contact President Paula Sasso for information at wakefieldosia@gmail.com.
