Thank you Wakefield on Question 1
Democracy is hard, so it shouldn't be easy to overturn a Town Meeting vote.

Thank you to everyone who came out in support of Question 1 yesterday. The reality is - democracy is hard. It's not easy to win a townwide election or pass an important article at Town Meeting. As such, it shouldn't be easy to overturn a Town Meeting vote.
Yesterday's results creates a more realistic, yet still very attainable standard to overturn a vote if you work for it. That right still exists and I'm sure it will be used in the future.
There will always be coalitions of "no" on key issues who are organized, spend money and say whatever it takes to scare voters. We need our citizens to form more coalitions in support of the progress we want to see in our town, be it a new high school, a better Public Safety building, a better downtown, etc. The change we want will not happen on its own. I look forward to joining with many of you in support of future efforts.
