Things to Know: Upcoming Galvin Public Forum and Reverse 9-1-1 Test

Here are a few things worth knowing today, Tuesday, June 5, 2012:

Weather: Today there's a 50 percent chance of showers, and it will be cloudy with a high near 60 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. 

Town Information: The Town of Wakefield will be testing its new emergency notification system tomorrow, June 6 at 3 p.m. Make sure you have signed up at www.wakefieldfire.org to get the phone updates. If you don't get a call, it means you're not signed up. You can .

Community: The Hartshorne House Association is holding its annual breakfast this morning at 7 a.m. at the , (4 Harrington Ct.). The breakfast will be catered by House Calls Catering. Donation: $12.00 donation for adults, $5 for children ages 7-12, free for children 6 and under. Net proceeds go toward the maintenance and preservation of the historic Hartshorne House, a 1681 landmark. Tickets are available from any H.H. Director, or at the following locations:  Realtors, , , Smith’s Drugstore, . 

Schools: The final vote to decide whether or not Wakefield residents will commit to paying for a new Galvin Middle School will be held on this upcoming Saturday, June 9th. There's a final public forum and tour opportunity scheduled for Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Galvin Middle School. .

Business:  The Wakefield, Melrose, Saugus and Stoneham Chambers of Commerce recently presented a workshop for local Veterans looking for information about starting their own business. The workshop at the S/Sgt Arthur F. DeFranzo Post 2346 VFW in Saugus featured several speakers and coordinators, including Kendall Inglese, Executive Director, Wakefield Chamber of Commerce; Jonathan Farwell, Sgt. USA (Ret), owner of CrossFit Strength & Conditioning, Jeff Clack, SCORE New England counselor and a US Navy Vietnam Veteran; Lorna Massiah, Massachusetts Department of Veterans Services; and State Representative Donald Wong, 9th Essex District. .
