Things to Know: Moulton Park Fundraiser, Free Violin and Viola Performance

A few news and events tidbits worth knowing today including community, the arts, and schools.

Here are a few things worth knowing today, Thursday, May 24, 2012:

Weather: Today, will be mostly cloudy with a high near 72 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. 

Community: The Friends of Moulton Park are selling individual bricks that residents can buy to both contribute financially to the park, and be a part of it. Bricks are $100 for individuals and $250 for businesses. The FROMP group has so far raised $50,000 for the new playground, but is still looking to raise more than $85,000 for a new playground by September 2012. _

Arts:  Violin and viola students of Wakefield Music will be performing for the 9th Annual Spring Recital at the Unitarian Universalist Church (526 Main St., Wakefield) today at 6:30 p.m. Students will perform music from Handel, Vivaldi, Schubert, other classical composers along with folk tunes and contemporary pieces. This free performance is open to the public.

Government: U.S. Rep. John Tierney will be connecting with Patch readers on Friday, May 25 through . The chat will run from 11 a.m. to noon and readers are encouraged to tune in and ask questions!

Schools: Due to a failure to post Tuesday night's meeting in enough advanced notice, that meeting was canceled, and the  will instead meet today at 4:30 p.m. On the agenda is further detail on the process for an interim superintendent to be appointed while the search is on for a new permanent superintendent.
