'Tis the Season Holiday Stroll Set For Saturday

From the Festival of Trees to the Holiday Stroll Hat Parade, Wakefield has your family covered.

The stage has been set for the 2017 “Tis the Season” Holiday Stroll scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2nd in downtown Wakefield. Albion St. and a portion of Main St will be closed to traffic from 1 to 7:15 p.m.

1:00 – 7:00 p.m. Pre-Parade Activities – Americal Civic Center

Noon to 7 p.m. – Boys & Girls Club “Festival of Trees” in the Drill Hall, children’s activities will be held in the B&G Club in the lower level of the Civic Center. For further info go to www.bgcstonehamwakefield.org

1:15 p.m. – Chili Contest held in the Heritage Room
2:00 p.m. – Wakefield Holiday Stroll Bags will be distributed
2:45 p.m. – Formation of the parade at Civic Center

From the Civic Center revelers can participate in the Holiday Stroll Hat Parade. Parade formation starts at 2:45. Wear your favorite hat or specially designed hat, use your imagination. March with your favorite cartoon/movie characters. The parade will be led by the Wakefield High School Marching Band, proceed down Main St. and end at the Beebe Library.

Entertainment and children’s activities will be scattered throughout the downtown area. Santa’s Mailbox will be awaiting children’s letters to Santa. Venture down Albion Street where many of the children’s activities will be taking place. Plan to take a ride on one of the three horse-drawn carriages that will carry residents up and down Main St. and Albion St. ($5 p/p), children less than 36 inches free with an adult. Also, take a ride on the roaming railroad ($3 per ride) which will be traveling up and down Albion St.

And if you want entertainment, you're in luck including Betty’s Bounce, Casper the Spectacular, North Ave Duo, Merry Dickens Carolers, Middlesex Concert Band, Roaming Railroad, The Lucky Show, Wakefield Music, The Mac Stevens Duo. From Galvin Middle School, the GMS band and Chamber Chorus; from the High School, Wakefield High School Marching Band, Strings, and Acapella. group.

As an added feature, the Middlesex Concert Band will be holding their annual concert, “Cookies & Carols” on Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Galvin Middle School. For further information go to www.mcbconcertband.org
