The Town of Wakefield is wrapping up its Vision 2030 exercise to develop a community vision and values statement. Using the Vision as a foundation, the Town is now seeking open and inclusive nominations for a 20-to-25 member advisory group to develop a new master plan. This is a volunteer position and all are encouraged to apply. The deadline to submit an application is October 15, 2021.
A master plan is a strategic framework that guides the Town’s future physical and economic development based on the community’s vision and goals. Developing a master plan is a process through which residents, business owners, employees, and committee members decide future priorities to guide growth and development over the next decade.

The Town is seeking nominations from:
- Residents; whether you are new to town or have been here for years, all perspectives are important! We encourage individuals of all ages to apply.
- Owners and employees of Wakefield-based businesses.
- Neighborhood and community leaders, activists, and advocates.
- Faith community members.
- Members of local non-profit organizations.
We understand schedules are busy, and people may feel they don’t have the time to serve. Over the course of a year, there will be about four advisory group meetings and four public workshops. There are also opportunities to contribute from home on your own time, by reviewing drafts, giving suggestions for presentation material, and helping spread the word about the project to the community, among other tasks. Diverse skills and perspectives are critical in this process.

The Advisory Group will be selected by Wakefield’s Planning Board at their October 26, 2021 meeting.
The Town of Wakefield has engaged Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) consultants to lead the master plan process. The goal is to elicit and quantify community input, discern consensus goals, and make recommendations to the Wakefield community based both on community responses and professional community-planning best practices and analyses.
