Screen-time limits. Tik Tok. Parental controls. Do you need some guidance? On Monday, November 15, 2021  at 7 p.m., Wakefield Public Schools’ Parent University program will offer “Social Media, Tech Trends, and Your Student: A conversation with internet safety expert Katie Greer.”

Having worked at both the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police, internet-safety expert Katie Greer recognizes that parents want to better understand the boundaries (and opportunities!) of technology. In this webinar, she will guide caregivers on how their children can use the internet in a safer, more productive way, from recognizing health traps to protecting themselves with privacy precautions.

Caregivers will learn about:

  • Digital health check-in: Is your family doing a good job balancing life and technology?
  • Smartphones & Age: What's the average age kids get smartphones? Are there alternatives? Is there a right age for kids to get smartphones?

Wakefield Public Schools Parent University, launched in 2014, provides social-emotional, technology, and academic workshops for caregivers of students in the community. Originally an in-person day of programming, recent outreach has been virtual with keynotes and interactive workshops held throughout the year.
