Families and Friends are invited to Temple Emmanuel in Wakefield to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim in two different ways, both with costumes, Hamantaschen, and joy! Purim is an ancient tale found in the Book of Esther telling the story of Queen Esther, the wife of a Persian king. As the story goes, Haman was an adviser to the king who wanted to exterminate the Jews in the Persian Empire. It is a tale of bravery and triumph over adversity.
Saturday, March 23rd at 7pm, the Temple Emmanuel Community will attend the reading of the Megillah, reminding Jewish people to be proud of their identity. It is our custom for Rabbi Greg Hersh, adults, and children to come in costumes depicting the Purim characters and more. After the reading there will be Hamantashen, the triangular tart depicting Haman’s hat.

On Sunday morning, March 24th from 10:30 to noon is the CHAI School’s Purim Carnival. There will be a Costume Parade, Carnival games, Mask making, singing, and Hamantaschen of course! Pre-registration is greatly appreciated and encouraged, but drop-ins are welcomed. Please RSVP to HebrewSchool@wakefieldtemple.org.
