Video: Warriors Fall to Middlesex Champs Woburn

In defeating the Wakefield Warriors on Monday at O'Brien Rink, the Woburn Tanners (14-2 in league play) locked up at least a tie for first place in the Middlesex League with Reading, which plays its final game against Wakefield later this week.

Tanners forward Daniel Holland scored twice, including a short-handed goal in the second period that took the wind out of Wakefield's sails, as Woburn went on to a 4-1 victory.

Holland's short-hander came a minute after Wakefield captain John Sartell had cut Woburn's lead to 2-1 with a power play goal.

The Warriors had a golden opportunity to knot the score when they went on another power play almost immediately after scoring, but Tanners captain Alex Holland took off on a breakaway and fed it to his younger brother for the back-breaking goal at 3-1.

"I'm proud of my guys," Wakefield Head Coach Derek Edgerly said. "They came out and gave it a class act from start to finish."

Woburn's victory puts the team in a strong position to make the Super 8 tournament, while avenging a loss to the Warriors early in the season.

"They're a good hockey club. They work so hard and keep coming at you," Woburn Head Coach Jim Duran said. "I'm not sure tonight was our best game, but we'll take it."

Woburn went on top in the first period with a power play goal from Adam Tanner and Alex Holland struck for a goal with a minute left in the first to bring the score to 2-0. Daniel Holland tallied the final goal with five minutes left in the game.

Wakefield closes out the season with two more tough match-ups against St. John's Prep and Reading.
