WAKEFIELD, MA — The town began construction on a shared-use path on North Avenue on Tuesday that will add a bike lane around Lake Quannapowitt.

Below is a press release from the Town of Wakefield:

On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, work will begin on the shared-use-path on the northbound side of North Avenue. The project involves widening the sidewalk from Church Street to Quannapowitt Parkway and reconstructing it into a shared-use path with a buffered bike lane to improve multi-model transportation around Lake Quannapowitt. Pedestrian access through the work zone will be detoured to the southbound side of North Avenue at the existing crosswalks. Drivers should always be attentive and stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.

Access to homes will be provided to the maximum extent possible, but residents should provide additional time to enter/egress driveways. Curbside refuse and recycling should continue to be placed outside by 6 a.m. on residents’ typical collection days. Learn more about this project, see the plan, and view the full schedule.
