Wakefield—Wakefield Cable Access Television (WCAT) Studios started the new year off with new leadership in place and a few new faces attending the first Board of Directors meeting of 2020. WCAT Executive Director, Ryan Boyd, welcomed everybody and offered updates and operating information along-side Studio Engineer, Ian McDermott.

WCAT has been integral to the Town of Wakefield in its effort and ability to provide the visibility and accessible communication needed. Keeping up with town meetings, events and information continues to be a struggle despite the multitude of ways in which we are able to communicate in this digital age. With the threat of FCC funding cuts, the WCAT Board of Directors and WCAT Staff are working to find new ways to mitigate any future financial challenges. WCAT is committed to operating at the professional level it is known for and continuing to provide the communication support and community building for the town and its residents that it always has, while avoiding major cuts to staff or services.

It’s essential that all residents of Wakefield, along with the Town of Wakefield itself, be mindful of the asset they have in WCAT Studios as a local, reliable and professional organization. WCAT impact stretches from its providing residents another way to keep up with School Committee meetings and Town Council news, all the way to families and friends who attend Movies by the Lake as an affordable and fun community activity. In between those two ends of the spectrum, are the many instances when WCAT staff provide a more visible platform for a school event, an organization’s mission or a myriad of creative endeavors.

With so many viewing options these days and increasingly less funding from cable subscribers, WCAT hopes to bridge the funding gap through an increase in individual and corporate donors, new Members, committed volunteers, as well as through providing fee-based services to individuals and groups looking for professional-level audio and visual production assistance.

We encourage you to stop by to see our studio and meet our staff. If you would like to become a studio member, donate, become a sponsor or are interested in volunteering with WCAT Studios, please visit our website at wcatwakefield.org, email us at info@wcat.tv or call us at (781) 224-0300.
