There are only a few weeks to go before the Wakefield Farmers Market (WFM) launches its 11th season of bringing local farm fare, specialty foods, and artisan products to Hall Park (next to Veterans Field) each weekend from mid-June to mid-October. This year the market will be held on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. starting June 15 through October 12, 2019.

As always, the days will feature live music, thanks to The Savings Bank’s support off our music program, and cooking demonstrations and more, thanks to the Wakefield Cooperative Bank, the sponsor of our Cooking Demonstrations and Food and Farmer Education program. (Check back in future weeks to learn about our pilot program to get local chefs involved on market days!).

Henna by Kayla will be a frequent visitor, there will be balloon artists and face painters stopping by, and we always have a Kid’s Activity Tent stocked with drawing materials, plus hula hoops, jump ropes, and sidewalk chalk, as well as occasional special events such as visits from Drumplin Farms and Curious Creatures. It’s a great place to shop, have a picnic, play, or just hang out on the shore of Lake Quannapowitt.

NEWSFLASH: The WFM Committee is pleased to report that we have two new staff members starting this 2019 Farmer’s Market season!

AnnMarie Gallivan of Wakefield has signed on to be the new WFM Market Manager. She is the owner of Create Artisan Studio on Albion Street and is an active member of the Wakefield community. Her strong administrative background coupled with her creativity will ensure that our market has yet another successful season and continues to thrive in the future.

Karen Beasley of Stoneham is the new Market Day Coordinator. She works for the Trustees of Reservations in Boston and the Kitty Connections a local non-profit animal rescue group. We feel she has the skills and enthusiasm to handle anything that happens on farmers market day.

ANOTHER NEWSFLASH: WFM will have an information tent at the Festival by the Lake being held on Saturday June 8 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the Lower Common. While we won’t have farmers or veggies on hand, we will have all the latest news.

AND you will be able to meet AnnMarie and Karen, as well as say a hello to outgoing Market Manager Wendy Dennis if you stop by our tent during the Festival. Also, in what has become an annual tradition, all are welcome to enter a free drawing for $20 in Market Bucks that you can use anytime during the season. You can also sign up for our online newsletter and, also, learn how become part of our great WFM Volunteer Team. Hope to see you at the Festival!

Other market news: Most of our regular vendors will be back and we have a number of new vendors coming aboard, including a new produce farm, Fay Mountain Farm, to replace Charlton Orchards. The fun news is that Patty and Nate just might be helping out the new farmer and be at our market for at least a few weeks. We hope so!

Here are all the vendors, some coming weekly, some biweekly, and some occasionally: A&D Books, Aaronap Cellars, Ackermann Maple Farm, All About Corks, , B-Organics, Be U By Rumi, Coutt’s Specialty Foods, Deano's Pasta, DF Designs, Drive By Pies, e-Glassey Lady, Emmetts Edibles, Farmer Dave's, Fay Mountain Farm, Flats Mentor Farm, Fork On a Road, Goodies Homemade, Grateful Tastes, Habibi Gourmet Food, Halvah Heaven, Hiller's Silver Studio, Jennifer’s Soap, Jerry’s Upholstery, Kelly's Farm, Kittredge Candles, Lilac Hedge Farm, Pony Shack Cider, Pour Man's Coffee, Red Antler Apothecary, Roasted Granola, Roberto's Seafood, Sarah's Originals, Sasquatch Woodworks, Sheepshed, Single Barrel Cellar, Swiss Bakers, The Bread Shop, Tower Beverages, Trow's Treasures, and West River Creamery
