GRAND MARCH

Sponsored by The Savings Bank

5:30 PM Upper Common, Lake Quannapowitt

A spectacular prom tradition is the Grand March which is held at the Upper Common by Lake Quannapowitt. The Wakefield Police Department and the Department of Public Works will assist in the planning and execution of this event.  The Savings Bank of Wakefield has generously provided the police detail, music, and decorations for the Grand March.

All students and guests must attend the Grand March.

  • Students are expected to arrive at the Congregational Church via Common Street by 5:00 PM where admission tickets to the prom will be issued by the Class Advisors. Without an admission ticket, students will not be allowed into the Danversport Yacht Club - no exceptions.
  • The procession will begin promptly at 5:30 PM. After students are assembled in the Congregational Church, the students will parade around the Upper Common on the V- shaped cement pathway for 15 to 25 minutes.  Students will leave the common immediately after the Grand March to travel to Danversport Yacht Club.
  • Enclosed is a copy of the dance contract detailing expectations for safe and positive participation which must be signed by parent and student in order to purchase prom tickets. Guest permission slips are available in the main office for any invited guest who does not attend WHS. Tickets will not be sold at the Grand March.
  • Due to the large number of spectators expected to attend the Grand March and to ensure the safety of all the participants, Church Street between the upper and lower common will be blocked off in order to provide parking spaces for the students’ transportation (limos, vans, etc.).
  • The parking lot adjacent to the Congregational Church will be reserved for parents of students.  The only other available parking will be alongside the lake and side streets.  For this reason, we ask that you abide by the above parking restrictions and arrange car pools to the Grand March
  • Handicapped parking will be available in the church parking lot for those who notify the school by May 23.  This notification should be addressed to Assistant Principal Dennis O’Leary at Wakefield High School.
  • In the event of rain, the Grand March will be held in the Charbonneau Field House at the high school.  If there is a question about whether or not the Grand March will be held outside, you may call the high school (781-246-6440 – Ext. 6918) for a recorded announcement.  The decision will be made at 1:00 p.m.    A message will also be posted on the WHS website.

TUESDAY, MAY 28

SENIOR PROM

 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Prom Location:    Danversport Yacht Club, 161 Elliott St., Danvers

 Ticket Price:       $40.00 per ticket

Tickets will be sold during lunch the week of  April 29.

All students MUST be at the Danversport Yacht Club by 7:30 PM unless special arrangements have been made in advance with the administration.

Class Night and Senior Prom are school sponsored events to which we pay particular attention for safety reasons. Although both events are strictly supervised, we ask for your help to ensure that students who participate in these events conduct themselves in accordance with school rules.  The use of alcohol/illegal substances, including tobacco, is strictly forbidden.  Cars and limos are subject to search upon arrival to the Grand March and Danversport Yacht Club.  Students will be subject to breathalyzer check at the Grand March and/or upon arrival at Danversport Yacht Club. Possession or use of drugs/alcohol/tobacco will result in immediate suspension and loss of all senior activities including graduation.

Limousine services are frequently used for transporting students. These services provide safe transportation. We recommend that you check the hours of guaranteed service and ensure that the limousine company understands our zero tolerance toward alcohol and drug use.
