Wakefield Hosts Burlington In Tournament Opener

The Wakefield girls' basketball team earned the No. 4 seed in the Division 2 North tournament and will host Burlington in a first round game Monday. The MIAA basketball pairings were released Friday.

The Warriors finished 15-5 and will face their Middlesex League rivals for a third time this season. Wakefield beat Burlington, 52-24, in January and 63-34 this month. If Wakefield avoids an upset, it will face the winner of the North Reading vs. Hamilton-Wenham game in the quarterfinals.

The Division 2 North seeds are: 1. Lynn Classical (19-1); 2. Pentucket (20-2); 3. Melrose (17-3); 4. Wakefield (15-5); 5. North Reading (15-5); 6. Danvers (15-5); 7. Newburyport (14-6); 8. Wilmington (13-7); 9. Saugus (12-8); 10. Tewksbury (12-8); 11. Somerville (11-8); 12. Hamilton-Wenham (11-9); 13. Burlington (10-10); 14. Arlington Catholic (10-10).

Wakefield finished 17-5 last winter.
