In an official release, Boston University confirmed that Roberto will not play for the team this season, but that “federal privacy laws prevent us from discussing his status.”

However, the university’s statement goes on to say that several months ago, BU did hear rumors that several months ago a hockey player was engaged in gambling.

“Although the rumors did not involve gambling on either college or professional hockey games, we nonetheless immediately conducted a thorough investigation and turned the results over to the appropriate authorities at the NCAA,” according to the statement from BU. “Based on that investigation, the NCAA made its own findings and took remedial action, and we would refer you to that organization for further information.”

Boston sports radio station WEEI reported Tuesday that Roberto is not being investigated by law enforcement.
