Wakefield Policeman Saves Niece's Life

Wakefield Police Department officer Thomas Flynn saved the life of his infant niece over the holiday weekend.

While vacationing with his sister and her family in Maine, on Saturday, July 1, Flynn’s infant niece began to choke. Sgt. Flynn, however, immediately took action, remaining calm as he administered aid to the girl until rescuers could arrive.

“Sgt. Flynn’s actions are indicative of what trained police officers do. We are always on duty and our family, friends and community look to us as leaders in times of need,” Chief Rick Smith said. “Sgt. Flynn is a true hero. He acted when called upon and relied on his training to save a family member in need. He is truly an example of all the good that police officers do every day.”

In the days since, Sgt. Flynn’s niece is happy and healthy and has returned home to be with her family.
