Wakefield School Lockdown Was False Alarm

The threat involved a school in another state with a similar name.

WAKEFIELD, MA – A social media threat directed at a school in Maryland forced a lockdown at the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School Monday, according to the school's Twitter page. The Wakefield school has a similar name to the Maryland school.

The school said in a tweet just before noon Monday that the lockdown was precautionary in nature. All students and staff were safe, the tweet said. Wakefield police and a team with the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council responded to the scene.

Nearby Wakefield Memorial High School was also sheltering in place in response to the lockdown, the Daily Times Chronicle reported.
