Wakefield Sons and Daughters of Italy in the Community

A barbecue, a donation, a concert and an upcoming celebrity speaker!

On July 18th, Lodge members came out in large numbers for another fun BBQ/monthly meeting. In addition to a lovely meal, there was time for outdoor games of bocce and cornhole. President Paula shared how pleased Stoneham Senior Center Director Kristen Spence was to accept a donation from the Lodge. Most Tuesdays this summer, members used the bocce court at the Stoneham Senior Center, so we were happy to support them in return. Although the Lodge is the “Wakefield” Sons and Daughters, we have many members from the surrounding towns and support organizations outside of Wakefield.

Some members recently met to enjoy a concert by Sea Breeze on the Stoneham Common. This band is a favorite because of their great performances and focus on Italian songs. An enjoyable concert on a beautiful summer night couldn’t be beaten.

The Lodge is pleased to invite members of the surrounding communities to our October event. On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Mary Ann Esposito, of Ciao Italia television and cookbook fame, will come to the West Side Social Club of Wakefield to speak about her long cooking career. Her PBS show is the longest running cooking show on television. Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by contacting President Paula at wakefieldosia@gmail.com. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Most of our members have joined the Lodge either because they know someone who is a member or because they attended a meeting or a social activity and enjoyed the camaraderie amongst the members or the Lodge’s focus of giving back to the community. As always, if you want to see what it is like to be part of our fun-loving Italian-American group, follow us on Facebook or contact President Paula about attending a meeting. Individuals who are not of Italian descent are also welcome as “social members.” In a word, Benvenuto (Welcome!)
