The Wakefield Sons & Daughters of Italy Kick off Summer

Summertime for the Lodge means outdoor meetings and bocce.

On the second Tuesday in June, a substantial number of members met up at President Paula Sasso’s back yard. Rather than anyone having to cook, we shared pizza from Gaetanos of Stoneham and salads from members. In what has become a summer tradition, we had a visit from the Rolling Cone ice cream truck. Members were faced with a big decision about which treat to select.

On other Tuesday nights in the summer, members (and friends) meet up at the Stoneham Senior Center on Elm St. to enjoy warm evenings and a friendly game or two of bocce. The start time is 6:00 p.m., and the public is welcome.

Our 2023 scholarship recipients were not able to attend of gathering this year. We always look forward to meeting them and their families and hearing about their college and career plans. We are pleased that we were able to offer scholarships to Jillian Spinali (Wakefield Lodge Award in Memory of Virginia Horn), Anna Lucarini (Wakefield Lodge Award in Memory of Bob Santiano), Aiden Laurendeau (The Bernard & Virginia Horn Memorial Award) and Olivia Johnson (Grand Lodge Scholarship.) Congratulations and best of luck to all!

Our next summer meeting will be on July 18th and include a cookout, cornhole and maybe even a hot tub and karaoke! If you want more information or would like to join the Lodge, contact President Paula Sasso at wakefieldosia@gmail.com with questions or attend a meeting to see what we are all about.
