Wakefield Track Brings Home Championship Hardware
Warriors finish second in boys' Division 4 meet.

Five state champions and a host of other top performances meant it was a great day on the circle at the Reggie Lewis Center.
The Wakefield boys finished second in the Division 4 state meet Thursday, just behind winner Northampton but ahead of Middlesex League rival Burlington.
The 4 x 800 team took first place, finishing in 8:18.57. The team members were senior Adam Roberto, junior Matt Greatorex, senior Nick McGee, and senior Ryan Sullivan. Wakefield also won the 4 x 800 at the Division 4 state relays in January.

While the running events took place, Wakefield was putting on a show of strength in the shot put. Senior Cole Mottl took first place with a throw of 47-feet-11.5-inches. Teammate and junior Patrick Redmond took second at 47-0. Shot put was another event that Wakefield won at the Division 4 relays.
Other boys with top 10 individual finishes included Sullivan in the 600 (8th in 1:26.27); Roberto in the 1,000 (2nd in 2:35.85); Greatorex in the mile (2nd in 4:28.47), and Marc Biennestin in the long jump (8th in 19-11). Wakefield also took third in the 4 x 200 and fifth in the 4 x 400.

The girls' didn't fare as well, finishing tied with Wareham and Duxbury in 24th place. But there were some impressive performances.
Senior Abigail Harrington was fifth in the 600 in 1:41.26. Freshman Olivia Lucey was 16th in the mile in 5:33.12. Wakefield's 4 x 800 team finished eighth in 10:16.73. Junior Julia Brown was 21st in the shot put in 29-8.
Next up for the Warriors is the All-State meet at Reggie Lewis on Sunday, Feb. 26.
