Weekly Sports Roundup, October 3-10
A look at all the local sports action from around Wakefield last week.
The Wakefield High football team made it three dominant wins in a row on Oct. 6, thumping Arlington 28-7 at their place to improve to 4-1 on the year. The Warriors reach the season’s mid-point on the strength of a remarkable three-game run, during which they’ve outscored their opponents by a 98-14 margin.
Josh Puccio scored a pair of first-half touchdowns—the first for over 50 yards—and led the charge as the Warriors put up 28 unanswered points against the baffled Spy Ponders. Dan Cardillo and Matt McKenna both added touchdown receptions for Wakefield.
Only an Arlington touchdown with less than a minute to play in the game ruined the Warriors shut out bid, but this, combined with the other recent strong outings from the team, should provide some valuable momentum heading into the back half of the campaign, during which the Warriors play five of their final six games against Middlesex League Small School opponents, with an automatic playoff bid on the line.
