WMGLD Announces Essay Contest Winners

The Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department (WMGLD) recently announced the semi-finalists and winners of the 7th annual WMGLD Energy Conservation Essay Contest. Galvin Middle School 5th graders Madalyn LoCoco, Steven Woods, Riley Suntken, Kymani Fleurme, Jonathan Guida and Brendan Jaena and St. Joseph’s School 5th grader Stephanie Curran will be honored at an awards celebration at Wakefield Community Access Television studios in Wakefield in early April. The seven winning essays were selected from among more than 300 essays submitted by fifth graders at the Galvin Middle School and St. Joseph’s School following a visit to their schools by WMGLD General Manager Pete Dion. A total of 36 students representing Galvin Middle School and four student from St. Joseph’s School, were selected as semi-finalists by a panel of judges which included teachers and WMGLD representatives. All students who submitted an essay received a WMGLD backpack, and each semi-finalist received an LED nightlight. Each winner will read his or her essay during the ceremony that will be recorded at the WCAT studios for airing at a later date.
