Young Wakefield Musician Earns Music Fellowship

Congratulations to Benjamin Wright of Wakefield on receiving the Trudy Larson Instrument Fellowship.

The following is an announcement from Northeast Mass. Youth Orchestras:

The Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras (NMYO) announced Benjamin Wright from Wakefield as the first recipient of the Trudy Larson Instrument Fellowship during the Afternoon of Concerts on December 9, 2012 at the Ipswich Performance Arts Center in Ipswich, MA. Benjamin is currently a freshman at Wakefield Memorial High School and cellist with the NMYO Symphony Orchestra. He has been in the NMYO ensembles for four years starting with the Intermezzo Orchestra, NMYO’s intermediate orchestra.

“Ben’s musicality, enthusiasm, and experience in the NMYO ensembles made him a great choice for the first Trudy Larson Instrument Fellowship,” notes NMYO Music Director Gerald J. Dolan, Jr. “Ben has really grown through the ranks of NMYO’s ensembles and that shows through his music growth over the last several years.”

The Trudy Larson Instrument Fellowship provides funds toward the purchase of a musical instrument for a student musician participating in the Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras. Named for Trudy Larson, founder of the Youth Orchestras, the fellowship is to be awarded annually in the amount of up to $1000. This fellowship has been made possible by the generous support of a local patron of the arts.

The purpose of this program is to make it possible for a student player to have a better instrument and thus improve and grow as a musician. More broadly, the program aims to kindle the love of orchestral music in students so that they continue to play and love music going forward.
