  • Practice, Practice, Practice – By practicing, you will feel more comfortable behind the wheel and be better prepared to take the test. Practice all of the required maneuvers as well as your general driving skills.

  • Utilize Empty Parking Lots – An empty parking lot is an ideal place to practice driving maneuvers. Office parking lots are often deserted and completely empty on weekends. Practice a variety of maneuvers in the parking lot, especially parallel parking.

  • Master the 3 Point Turns – It usually takes hours to perfect the skill of three point turns. Practice on both narrow and wide roads remembering to signal in and out, check your blind spot before leaving the side of the road, looking over your right shoulder to back up, and to check your traffic before changing directions.

  • Get Familiar with the Testing Area – Typically, the road test is performed on major roadways and side streets that surround the testing site. Before scheduling an appointment, spend significant amounts of time driving all around the testing area but show courtesy to those that live on and around the road test area. Become familiar with all the speed limits, potential hazards and road signs.

  • Prepare the Car – Fully inspect the car that will be used during the road test to ensure that everything is working properly, including the blinkers, brake lights and headlights. Check out the turn signals, lights, emergency brake, wipers, and hazard lights. Be sure the windshield is free of any cracks.

  • Organize the Test Paperwork – Gather up all of the essential and required test paperwork and keep it in a secure location. At a minimal, you will be required to bring your permit along with the vehicle’s proof of insurance and registration.

  • Do Not Forget Any Corrective Lenses – If you require corrective glasses to drive, it is important to take them with you to use on your road test.

    • Practice the Car’s Controls – Become as familiar as possible with the car that you will be using to take the test. This includes understanding all of the car’s controls including the headlights, turn signals, windshield wipers and hand-brake.

    • Adjust the Mirrors – Be sure the mirrors are fully adjusted to maximize your view, before you arrive at the testing site.

    • Arrive Early – Arriving at the test site early will help prepare you mentally and give you the critical time you need to relax before it is time to take the test.

When the day finally arrives, find things to do to avoid nervousness. Attempt to relax and enjoy the test. When you begin the test, remain alert and fully aware about everything that is happening around you. We promise that after you take your road test you will still be able, to walk, run, eat, text (not while driving), and even drive a car. The only question that remains to be answered is if you will be able to drive by yourself. If you know how your vehicle operates, and have spent enough time practicing, you will likely pass the test with flying colors.
