Funds Needed for the Fireworks!
Donations are needed for the Night Before the 4th Fireworks Fund - Checks or cash can be dropped off at Blackburn Hall or at the Walpole Fire Department.
The Night Before the 4th Fireworks is celebrating 55 years this July - a longstanding beloved Walpole tradition that brings people to Walpole from all over the state. The evening kicks off with a Fire Truck Parade, followed by a band concert in the center of town and then the grand finale..a spectacular fireworks display set off over Memorial Pond. What many people in town do not know is that each year, the Fireworks are funded 100% by donations from local businesses and individuals. The tab arrives every May, $25,000.00 due by the end of June. Lt. Peter Carter of the Walpole Fire Department volunteers his time to oversee the Fireworks, and he signs off on the bill. "Every little bit helps", Carter said. "I took this over a few year ago because I wanted my kids to grow up with the same great town event that I saw as a kid. The big difference now is that the economy hit the small businesses hard, and they can't give as much as in years past. We need the help of everyone in town for the fireworks to continue". Donations, in any amount, can be dropped off at Blackburn Hall or at the Fire Department. For every $25.00 donation, we have "I Make Fireworks Happen" T-shirt that is available at Blackburn Hall. Donations can also be mailed to the Walpole Recreation Dept., 135 School Street, Walpole MA 02081 attn: Aicha Kelley. Checks should be made out to "The Night Before the Fourth Fireworks Committee". Please help - you CAN make Fireworks happen!
