Murder Suspect Arrested After Walpole Standoff

A man wanted in connection with a murder in Boston barricaded himself in a Hilltop Drive apartment Tuesday night.

WALPOLE, MA – A man wanted in connection with a Boston murder was arrested after an hours-long standoff in Walpole overnight. Kyle Williams-Gathers, 31, of Boston, surrendered to police after barricading himself in an apartment on Hilltop Drive for five hours, police said.

The apartment belongs to Williams-Gathers' ex-girlfriend, WHDH reported. No one was injured in the standoff.

Williams-Gathers was arrested for a warrant charging him with the murder of 21-year-old Shaquille Browder, according to police.

Browder was shot around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11 in the area of Columbia Road and Washington Street in Dorchester. He was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, where he was later pronounced dead. A second man who had fled the scene was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

"This brazen daytime shooting was very troubling," Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said in a statement. "The efforts of my homicide investigators and prosecutors from the District Attorney's office led to the quick identification of the person responsible for Shaquille's death. I commend the efforts, patience and professionalism of all those involved in the arrest this morning in Walpole. We will not rest until every homicide is solved."
