WALPOLE, MA — A new report says Walpole is among the safest towns in Massachusetts.
Recently released, the list from BackgroundChecks.org places Walpole at No. 22 and highlights the town's violent crime rate of 53.2 and 1.5 percent chance of being involved in a property crime.
North Attleboro took the top spot.

Other areas around Walpole included Norfolk at No. 5, Franklin at No. 10, Norton at No. 18, Wrentham at No, 23, Sharon at No. 35, and Norwood at No. 43.
The list compiled based on FBI violent crime stats and propriety BackgroundChecks.org research data. Rates are normalized per 100,000 residents with the state average being 391 for violent crime and 1,857 for property crime. This is calculated by taking (# of crimes/population) times 100,000.
