Walpole Native Named As Deputy Police Chief

WALPOLE, MA — A Walpole native and 25-year department veteran has moved into a new leadership role.

Brian Becker was promoted from lieutenant to deputy police chief during the Walpole Select Board’s meeting Tuesday, the Police Department announced Wednesday. His wife, Erin, and their children, Cassidy and Jeremy, pinned his new badge during a ceremony attended by relatives, friends and colleagues.

Becker graduated from Walpole High School in 1995 and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army before joining the Walpole Police Department in 2001. He graduated from the Weymouth Police Academy in summer 2002.

During his career, Becker has served as a mountain bike officer, ATV unit officer, honor guard commander, MetroLEC Regional Response Team member and firearms instructor. He oversaw the department’s weapons training and served for more than a decade on the police union’s executive board, holding the positions of president, vice president and treasurer.

Becker was promoted to sergeant in 2013 and lieutenant in 2022. As a lieutenant, he most recently oversaw the department’s patrol, traffic and training divisions.

He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice from Fisher College. Becker also earned the Trilogy Award from FBI-LEEDA after completing its Supervisor, Command and Executive Leadership institutes.
