Walpole Obituary: Leslie S. Fortier Sr.

Leslie S. Fortier Sr., age 88, of Halifax, formerly of Brockton, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. Les was born and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Peter and Ethel (Stearns) Fortier. He lived in Brockton for many years before moving to Halifax Mobile Home Estates 20 years ago. During World War II, Les served in the Army Air Corps with the 410th Bomb Group in Europe. He retired from Bird & Sons in Walpole and had also worked at Canton and Paramount Cleaners. Les loved playing bingo and the socialization it provided. He also enjoyed gardening and lawn care. He was a longtime member of the VFW and locally at Post 1046 in Brockton. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union Local 25. Leslie is survived by a daughter, Cheryl A. Wise and her husband Ralph of West Bridgewater; and a son, Leslie Lee Fortier Jr. of Onset. He leaves two granddaughters, Christina Woodlock of Middleboro and Candace Roy of Taunton; and five great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Lorraine Perry of Taunton, Charles Fortier of Newport, R.I., and the late Herb Fortier, Eleanor Robinson and Elsie Barnes. He leaves many nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Arlene (Metcalf) Fortier of Brockton. Visiting hours were held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Friday, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
