WEATHER UPDATE: Thunderstorms Expected This Afternoon

Warm and less humid weather arrives on Friday, and will continue onto the weekend, and probably into much of next week, according to the NWS

An approaching cold front will likely trigger showers and thunderstorms with frequent lightning and heavy rain late Thursday afternoon into the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of the activity and strongest storms are expected across eastern Massachusetts. This includes the Greater Boston area southward to Cape Cod. Forecasters ask residents to be aware of potential thunderstorms, because if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

However, there is a low risk for a few showers and isolated thunderstorms this weekend.
