3 Mass. College Towns Among Nation's Safest

The 2016 List of the 30 Safest College Towns in America has been released, and three Massachusetts towns made the top 30: Amherst, Waltham and Westfield.

The list was compiled by SafeWise, using the most recent FBI crime statistics and safety-related programs and initiatives in college cities across the country.

Amherst ranked as the safest college town in Massachusetts, coming in at No. 7. Amherst, most famously home to UMass-Amherst and Amherst College, is also home to Hampshire College. "Still governed by a traditional town meeting, Amherst is a city of concerned and involved citizens," said SafeWise. See what else was said about Amherst.

Waltham, home to Bentley University and Brandeis University, as well as the Center for Digital Imaging Arts for Boston University, was next at No. 23. Westfield made the list at No. 27, meaning Westfield State University is in good hands. "That inclusive tradition continues today as the WSU Student Threat Assessment Team (STAT) works to rid the campus of potentially threatening, violent, or alarming behaviors that make any member of the university community feel unsafe," said SafeWise.
