• Waltham Library renovation plan moves forward (walthamtimes.org) — Waltham’s long-discussed public library renovation just cleared a major hurdle, with the City Council authorizing a project cost cap so the city can unlock more than $19 million in state funding. The $79 million plan would significantly expand and modernize the 1915 building, while councilors press the design team to address parking and long-term operating needs before final designs are approved.
• Local man honored with lifetime achievement award for contributions to mental health recovery (walthamtimes.org) — Waltham resident Howard Trachtman is being honored with a major lifetime achievement award for decades of mental health peer advocacy that includes founding programs serving Waltham. His work ranges from local peer-led recovery groups to national warmline training and board service. Residents can even attend his upcoming award dinner through the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health website.
• Rematch between Bentley and Pace set for NE10 Quarterfinals on Saturday (bentleyfalcons.com) — Bentley men’s lacrosse, based in Waltham, heads into Saturday’s NE10 quarterfinal at Pace after upsetting the Setters 13–11 in their April 11 home game in Waltham. The Falcons enter as the #6 seed, leaning on standout faceoff play, scoring leaders, and a strong defense as they try to advance to the April 29 semifinals.
