Autumn on the Farm Right Here In Waltham

Local vegetables in the public schools, learning how to "eat the rainbow," programs from tots to teens, and our Farm Day festival

It’s September! Here in New England, there are so many special associations with this month…the start of cooler weather, fall foliage season, pumpkins turning color in the fields, apple-picking and apple pies and apple cider, the abundance of the harvest… and of course a flurry of back-to-school activity. Here at Waltham’s very own non-profit community farm, we are celebrating autumn in a variety of ways.

· HAVE CHILDREN IN THE WALTHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS? In September, Waltham Fields will be providing the Waltham public school cafeterias with summer squash and zucchini as part of the Massachusetts Farm to School program. We’ll be featuring a new monthly vegetable through December!

· WANT YOUR KIDS TO LEARN ABOUT FOOD AND FARMING RIGHT HERE IN WALTHAM? Friday and Saturday morning programs start next week for youth of all ages and are affordably priced on a sliding scale. Community Service Hours available for older youth, too! Sign up today! http://communityfarms.org/index.php/programs/education/

· COME ON OUT TO OUR FREE FALL FESTIVAL! Come on by on Saturday, Sept. 24th from 2pm – 5pm! It’s our free, family-friendly outdoor farm festival. We’ll have music, art activities, tractors, chickens, dig-your-own carrots, a visit from 19th century Cornelia Warren, and much more. Take Waltham’s Tick Tock Trolley from Waltham Common for a free ride to and from the farm!
