Bites Nearby: La Casa De Pedro

Enjoy some delicious Latin American fare.

With its décor of palm trees and the sound of Latin music,  always seems on the verge of breaking out into a party. Just don't call it a Mexican restaurant – founder Pedro is from Caracas, Venezuela. "We serve Latin and Spanish cuisine," said manager Flavio Valenzuela. The large, airy, and high-ceilinged room, which seats 160, is decorated with colorful art work. The bar area is friendly and bright, yet unobtrusive, with two flat screens for sports fans.

Don't miss: This is a place to branch out from the usual Latin fare. Sure, they've got quesadillas and empanadas; but try the arepas, a tapas dish made from grilled corn cakes filled with a choice of meats or cheeses. And llanos Venezolanos, pork tenderloin medallions sauteed in sweet basil sauce.

The vibe: The music, often salsa, is live on Friday and Saturday evenings and during Sunday brunch. No cover fee. "People get up and dance," said Velenzuela.

Cool factor No. 1: The specialty alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are made with natural-infused and fresh-squeezed flavors. No sour mixes here.

Cool factor No. 2: During warmer months, the large outdoor patio area, which seats 80, is a great place for alfresco dining, talking, people-watching and catching some rays.
